Top Questions About Decks
Question #1. What decking material should I choose?
That really depends on two factors, your budget and what level of maintenance you want. Composite decking material is very durable and virtually maintenance free only really needs a light wash every few years depending upon where you live.
Wood decking on the other hand requires staining and sealing every 2 to 5 years. If this is neglected it will rot at a much faster rate.
We use joist tape to protect the joists and really slow the aging of the framing. The butyl joist tape will be used regardless of the decking you choose.
Question #2. What types of railing are offered?
There are 3 main types of railing that we can use, and each will have its own pros and cons. Wood railing would be the cheapest option and the most maintenance. Then you could choose vinyl railings that use aluminum inserts and galvanized posts to create a strong and lasting connection. Next would be powder coat aluminum railing, probably the most durable.
There are other choices as well including glass, cable, and different baluster choices.
Question #3 Does the composite decking get hot?
Yes! In the direct sun you will need shoes to walk across composite decking, wood is not as bad but can still get a bit hot.
